Recent ActivitySlideshows Class Announcements English for AdultsAdult English classes will be starting in February. Learn English with other adults in your community. Practice speaking, expand your vocabulary, improve your grammar and read with understanding. Childcare will be provided. Classes will be held in the evenings twice a week. ELL Program SurveyA survey regarding the ELL program went home with your children in December. We are always striving to improve, so this is a good way to share your thoughts about the program. If there is something you think we could do better, start doing, continue doing or even stop doing, we would love to hear your ideas. In addition, if you would like to be included in our ELL Advisory Group to share ideas on how we can improve ELL instructional services, you can indicate your interest on the survey as well. You may return the survey to school with your child or mail to Stephanie Johnson to the address provided.
CELA (Colorado English Language Assessment) coming in JanuaryAll students in K-12 identified as English Language Learners in the state of Colorado are required to take the CELA in January 2010. These students have a language other than English in their background. The CELA tests ELLs in the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking. If students test fluent in all 4 skill areas they are on "monitored" status. "Monitored" means in addition to testing fluent in all areas of the CELA, testing proficient in Reading and Writing on CSAP and working on-grade level in their classrooms, they will not be pulled out of class for ELL services. We monitor them by communicating with their teachers periodically to make certain they continue to stay on grade level in all their content areas. After 2 years of testing fluent on the CELA, and no academic concerns arise during this time, students will be eligible to exit the ELL Program.
